What's the Difference between Intel Core Duo and Core 2 Duo
Core Duo is Intel's first dual-core CPU. It's a whole new architecture for Microsoft, using two cores on a single die, which, put simply, gives you two chips in one package. Running at lower speeds than the old Pentium line, the Core Duo conserves substantial power vs. ratcheting up clock speed while offering what was, at the time, record-breaking performance.
Now there's Core 2 Duo. In many ways Core 2 is the same as Core: The chips are built using the same production process and fit in the same sockets as Core Duo chips. Putting aside Core 2 Extreme (a fancy version of the Core 2 Duo), you won't see many spec changes: Both chips have the same frontside bus speed of 667MHz, but Core 2 Duo is now available at somewhat faster clock speeds (as I write this, 2.67GHz chips are available). The frontside bus communicates between the CPU and RAM (and other components), and it's a notorious performance bottleneck for computers. The Core 2 also has the same L2 cache that the Core has. However, there are architecture changes to the silicon that give the Core 2 more sophisticated processing abilities. Both chips exist in desktop and laptop versions.
Why does all of this matter? Performance, pure and simple. In my tests, Core 2 Duo computers outperform Core Duo computers on tasks across the board, from rendering graphics and video to spell-checking documents. The speed improvement varies widely, but on average it's about 30 percent. That's significant in an industry that thrives on tiny, incremental improvement. Better yet, there's not an appreciable difference in battery life on notebooks, as power consumption for both chips (at the same clock speed) is about the same.
Now let's consider pricing. Initially, Core 2 chips were more expensive than Core, but that has changed, as Core is practically gone from the desktop market now. Surprisingly, you can now get a 2.13GHz Core 2 CPU for less than the price of a 1.66GHz Core CPU.Still, expect to see some systems still on the market that use the Core CPU, especially in laptops. Performance is still very good with Core, so don't feel like you're getting second-class goods if you buy a Core Duo notebook, but remember you are buying a chip that Intel is no longer actively selling, and prices for Core 2 systems aren't really any different than they were for Cores. If it was my money, I'd hold out for a Core 2 system unless you got a great deal on a Core... which will be all but vanished from the market in a matter of months.

Increasing The Life Of Hard Disk
Taking care of your hard disk is important because this is the place where all the data is stored and once the hard disk crashes, data in most cases is not recoverable. There are data recovery softwares and programs which recover data from crashed hard disks but that is not for normal computer users.
But why do hard disks crash and what can be done to prevent them from crashing?. At the same time how can a hard disk be made more efficient? Here are the answers.
Hard disks crash due to many reasons. Voltage fluctuations, physical impact, improper alignment and of course mechanical failure due to wear and tear of internal parts. Let us start one by one and get the answers to the above problems.
1. Voltage fluctuations or spikes as they are called can be prevented by using voltage stabilizers or spike guards. This will limit the damage to the hard disk to a great extent.
2. Physical impact can be prevented by handling the hard disk carefully when installing/ re-installing. When installing the hard disk care should be taken to see that it sits perfectly horizontal and that it does not vibrate or shake once the computer is started.
3. The natural wear and tear of parts can be limited by defragmenting your hard disk from time to time. But what is defragmentation? All newly created files are stored in various places on the hard disk in a single cluster ( contiguous file ). But, as the number of files and programs increase, these files are not stored as one contiguous file but broken down and scattered in various places on the hard disk. In short files get fragmented. When these files are accessed by the user, the head on the hard disk moves to and fro to locate these fragments. These fragmented files puts lot of mechanical pressure on the internal parts of the hard disk. This leads to crashes. To start disk defragmenter from the start menu, click the start button and follow this path (All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / Disk Defragmenter). A minimum of 15 percent free space on your disk is needed for disk defragmenter to run. The disk can also be defragmented automatically by using schedule task. This program can can be accessed via system tools.
4. Power management tool can also be used to enhance the life of hard disk. To access this program go to start / control panel / power options and set the parameters for various hardware devices.
5. Disk cleanup increases the efficiency of the hard disk. So delete unwanted files and programs regularly.
When Bad Discs Go Good
Have you ever lost an important file on a DVD or CD? InDisc Recovery 3 from OctaneSoft makes it easy for you to recover all or parts of files stored on damaged or corrupted DVDs or CDs that Windows is unable to access. The program can read files on media created with Nero Burning ROM, Roxio Easy CD/DVD Creator, and other ISO-9660 CD or DVD writing software.
The following tips will help you get the most out of your hardware--current and future--for many years to come
Leave room for RAM: Make sure that you have space for future memory upgrades. Your new PC should have at least one free RAM socket (check with the vendor to determine expandability options for systems with dual-channel memory setups). Also, leave some room for expansion when you upgrade: Don't install two modules if you can get the same amount of RAM on one. Always consult your motherboard manual before buying memory, however, as some systems require that the RAM modules be installed in pairs.
Avoid PCI cards: If your machine has both an open PCI Express slot and a PCI slot available, use a PCI Express card rather than its PCI equivalent for such internal components as a wired or wireless network adapter. If PCI Express isn't an option, add an external USB 2.0 version of the device. It may cost a bit more, but USB devices are easy to transfer to other computers, and USB should be around long after the PCI bus is history.
Choose SATA, not PATA: Make sure that your new PC has at least two Serial ATA connectors. Some budget systems offer only older Parallel ATA connectors, and others come with a single SATA slot. If you're adding a new internal hard drive, make it a SATA drive, which is easier to install, has slimmer cabling to help cooling air circulate in the case, and can be transferred to future PCs, which are likely not to have PATA connectors at all.
If your current system lacks a SATA connector, use Addonics' $30 Serial ATA to IDE converter to link a SATA drive to your IDE port. Or add multiple SATA ports via Adaptec's $80 DuoConnect 5020 PCI card.
which includes two SATA ports and five USB 2.0 ports. Always get the highest-capacity drive you can afford; eventually you'll use the space. Microsoft requires a whopping 15GB of free disk space just for Vista.
Go digital: Some hard-core gamers still prefer the quick response and clarity of analog CRT displays, but most users today want an LCD equipped with an all-digital connection through a DVI port. If you're buying a new monitor or graphics card, check that it provides a DVI connection. If necessary, use VGA-to-DVI and DVI-to-VGA adapters available at any computer.
Hardware Tips: Plan Ahead to Extend the Life of Your Computer Hardware
Computers are in transition: Technologies such as the PCI Express bus and all-digital video connectors are supplanting their predecessors. More important, Microsoft's new Windows Vista is right around the corner. Anyone who's thinking of buying PC hardware in the next few months must keep an eye on the future.
If the transition to Windows XP is any lesson, the biggest potential hassle of a Vista upgrade is lack of support for legacy hardware and peripherals. Before moving to the new OS, check with your printer, scanner, and other peripheral manufacturers to learn whether they plan to offer Vista drivers for your product.
Microsoft has created the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor, a free program that examines your system's hardware and attached peripherals to identify possible driver and hardware conflicts, as well as other compatibility problems.
If you're ready to buy a PC now, with an eye toward upgrading to Vista down the road, stick to a Vista Premium Ready machine rather than choosing one that supports only Vista Basic (be sure to see Microsoft's description of the various Vista releases). And no matter which version of Vista you plan to run, don't buy any less than 1GB of RAM.

Defensiveness reveals the inner self.
A wife says, "Why does my husband get so defensive? All I have to do is mention that the grass needs mowing and he goes ballistic."
This husband is revealing his self-esteem hot spot. Some experience in his past has tied his sense of self worth to mowing the grass. Your mention of the grass translates "She thinks I'm not doing my job. I work like crazy, and now she is on my case about the grass." He sees it as a negative statement about his worth.
I know you didn't mean it that way. That's why I suggesting you observe his defensiveness, so that you can learn what is going on inside of him. We don't know these emotional hot spots until we touch one. It would be a good idea to make a list of all your husband's defensive reactions. Note what you said and did and how he responded. This insight will help you discover another way to discuss the topic that will be less threatening to his self-esteem.
Both husbands and wives hold a tremendous influence on their spouse. However, it is up to you whether your influence is positive.
Love is a two way street.
If a wife wants to enhance her husband's ability to give her emotional love, perhaps her greatest influence will be in loving him. In my book, The Five Love Languages, I talk about the importance of discovering your husband's primary love language - the thing that really makes him feel loved: words of affirmation, quality time, gifts, physical touch, or acts of service. Once you discover it, pour it on. Husbands are drawn to wives who are meeting their emotional need for love.
Can you do it, even if he is not loving you. God did. He loved us when we were unlovely. But that's God. I'm me. I know, but you are God's child and He can empower you to love an unlovely spouse. I've seen it many times. A wife chooses to speak her husband's love language, even though she doesn't feel loved by him. He warms up and in time begins expressing her love language. Can emotional love be re-born in a marriage? You bet. But someone must begin the process. Why not you?
Requests are more productive than demands.
None of us like to be controlled, and demands are efforts at controlling. "If you don't mow the grass this afternoon, then I'm going to mow it." I wouldn't make that demand unless you want to be the permanent lawn mower. It is far more effective to say, "Do you know what would really make me happy?" Wait until he asks, "What?" Then say, "If you could find time this afternoon to mow the grass. You always do such a great job."
Let me illustrate by applying the principle to you. How do you feel when your husband says "I haven't had an apple pie since the baby was born. I don't guess I'm going to get any more apple pies for eighteen years"? Now, doesn't that motivate you? But what if he says, "You know what I'd really like to have? One of your apple pies. You make the best apple pies in the world. Sometime when you get a chance, I'd really love one of your apple pies. Chances are he'll have an apple pie before the week is over. Requests are more productive than demands.
Men respond positively to praise.
One of the most common complaints men make in my office is: "Dr. Chapman, in my work I am respected. People come to me for advice. But at home, all I get is criticism." What she considers suggestions, he reads as criticism. Her efforts to stimulate growth have backfired.
Give him praise. The fastest way to influence a husband is to give him praise. Praise him for effort, not perfection. You may be asking, But if I praise him for mediocrity, will it not stifle growth? The answer is a resounding "No". Your praise urges him on to greater accomplishments.
My challenge is to look for things your husband is doing right and praise him. Praise him in private, praise him in front of the children, praise him in front of your parents and his parents, praise him in front of his peers. Then stand back and watch him go for the gold.

Create a Shortcut to Lock Your Computer
Leaving your computer in a hurry but you don’t want to log off? You can double-click a shortcut on your desktop to quickly lock the keyboard and display without using CTRL+ALT+DEL or a screen saver.
To create a shortcut on your desktop to lock your computer:
Right-click the desktop. Point to New, and then click Shortcut.
The Create Shortcut Wizard opens. In the text box, type the following: rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWork Station Click Next.
Enter a name for the shortcut. You can call it "Lock Workstation" or choose any name you like.
Click Finish. You can also change the shortcut's icon (my personal favorite is the padlock icon in shell32.dll) .
To change the icon: Right click the shortcut and then select Properties.
Click the Shortcut tab, and then click the Change Icon button.
In the Look for icons in this file text box, type: Shell32.dll. Click OK.
Select one of the icons from the list and then click OK You could also give it a shortcut keystroke such CTRL+ALT+L.
This would save you only one keystroke from the normal command, but it could be more convenient
Increase torrent download speed
This tutorial will help to increase torrent download speed while using torrent software like Bittorrent , Azureaus, Bitcomet....Thus, you will be able to download torrent movies, music, videos and warez all at high speed.
It also explains all torrent concepts....just get most of torrent....
What is a torrent?
A torrent file is used by a torrent client to download various files likes movies, music, warez, etc. Just think of it as a set of instructions that tell the torrent client what to download. Torrent files are usually only a few kB big, but can be used download much bigger files.
The Anatomy of a torrent
When browsing torrent sites, you'll notice a lot of information regarding a torrent. Here are the 3 main terms associated with a torrent file:
Leech: A peer - or any client that does not have 100% of the data.
Seeder: A seeder is a peer that has a complete copy of the torrent and still offers it for upload. The more seeders there are, the better the chances are for completion of the file.
Peer: A peer is one instance of a BitTorrent client running on a computer on the Internet that other clients connect to and transfer data.
Torrent Clients
A torrent client is basically a program that you open a torrent in, allowing a particular file to be downloaded to your computer. There are many free torrent clients on the internet. These include BitComet, Azureus and uTorrent. Many torrent sites however, have banned clients such as BitComet, as it gives a better download speed than upload speed, meaning that people don't share their data, which is what torrents are all about. Personally, I recommend uTorrent. Its fast, simple and easy to use.
Downloading
***For any examples given, please note I will be referring to uTorrent on Windows***
***It should also be noted that torrents take a while to get started properly. I recommend you wait at least half an hour before really investigating the issue of poor download speeds***
Okay, so let me begin. You've just come across a torrent you really want. So, naturally enough you open it in a torrent client. So you're sitting there with a torrent. Downloading. One thing though, the download rate is ****, right? This is a common among torrent users, so don't blame your computer. There are a number of reasons for the poor download rates, some of which I will discuss below.
Routers
Ah routers. These are one of the main limiting factors of a torrent's download rate. Basically your router has to have specific ports open on it to allow connections from other peers.
This is called port forwarding. I won't go into detail here, as theres enough information for its own article, but I will tell you to go to PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall . It contains specific configurations for almost every router and program combination under the sun (Sorry). Just follow the instructions, and you should be downloading with great speeds in no time. If not, just read on below!
Firewalls
Okay, in uTorrent go to Options>Preferences>Connection you should see "Port used for incoming connections" and a box beside it. In the box there should be a number. Take note of it, its the port number that uTorrent is listening to for connections. Okay, now go into the control panel on Windows, and double click the "Windows Firewall" icon.Click the "Exceptions" tab and click "Add Port". For name type "TorrentTCP", for port type the port number you took note of earlier, and click TCP, then hit "OK". Repeat the process except this time, for name type "TorrentUDP", for port enter the same as before, and click UDP, then hit "OK". Okay, go check the downlaod speeds on your torrent, if its not improved then read on my friends.
Torrent Client Hacking
Okay guys, my saving grace. A lot of this section is taken from TorrentFreak | Torrent News, Torrent Sites and the latest Scoops so big up to those guys.
1. Hack the max half-open TCP connections
If you're on XP sp2, your TCP connections are limited to a maximum of 10. This might hurt your downloading speed because it wont let you connect to as much peers as you want. It is supposed to slow down viruses because their spreading strategy is to connect to a high amount of ip numbers, but it could cripple your torrent downloads. A nice way to fix this is to download this patch http://lvllord.de/?lang=en&url=downloads
also
EvID4226Patch223d-en.zip | TorrentFreak
Note: Some people report that their antivir reports the patch to be a Virus, This is not the case.
Check out http://www.lvllord.de/ for more details on this.
The patch allows you to set the maximum allowed connections to any number you want. Any number between 50 and 100 is ok (more is NOT always better).
Next you need to configure your torrent client to allow 50-100 max half-open TCP connections
In uTorrent, go to: Options>Preferences>Advanced options>net.max_halfopen and change its value to 80
then hit "Set" and "OK".
2. Maximum upload speed
Probably the most important setting there is. Your connection is (sort of) like a pipeline, if you use you maximum upload speed there's not enough space left for the files you are downloading. So you have to cap your upload speed.
Use the following formula to determine your optimal upload speed¦
80% of your maximum upload speed
so if your maximum upload speed is 40 kB/s, the optimal upload rate is 32kB/s
But keep seeding!
3. Maximum download speed
Although setting your maximum download speed to unlimited may sound interesting, in reality it will only hurt your connection. If you still want to be able to browse properly, set your maximum download speed to:
95% of your maximum download speed
so if your maximum download speed is 400 kB/s, the optimal download speed is 380kB/s
4. Maximum connected peers per torrent
Yet another setting that you don't want to max out. I experimented quite a lot with the max connected peers settings and came to the conclusion that both high and low number hurt the download speed of a torrent. The following setting worked best for me.
upload speed * 1.3
so if your maximum upload speed is 40 kB/s, the optimal amount of connected peers per torrent is
40 * 1.3 = 52
5. Maximum upload slots
1 + (upload speed / 6)
so if your maximum upload speed is 30 kB/s, the optimal number of upload slots is
1 + (30 / 6) = 6
6. More Tips
Check seeds and peers
A simple tip, but very important. Always look for torrents with the best seed/peer ratio. The more seeds (compared to peers) the better (in general). So 50 seeds and 50 peers is better than 500 seeds and 1000 peers. So, be selective.
Disable Windows Firewall
It sucks. Windows Firewall hates P2P and often leads a life of it's own. So disable it and get yourself a decent (free) firewall, Kerio or Zone Alarm for example.
Turn on Encryption
Encrypting your torrents will prevent throttling ISP's from limiting your bittorrent traffic. Go to: Options>Preferences>Network Go to Protocol encryption, you can choose between enabled and forced. Enabled will give you more connections but offers less protection against traffic shapers. I would recommend to try enabled first, if that doesn't increase your speeds you need to swich to forced. Ticking Allow legacy incoming connections allows non ecrypted clients to connect to you. This improves compatibility between clients but makes you more vulnerable to traffic shapers.I would recommend to tick this box, but if that doesn't increase your speeds, untick it!
Optimize your internet connection
The TCP optimizer is a freeware utility that optimizes your internet connection. I found it very useful and it helped speeding up my connection for regular internet activity and for downloading torrents. Just download it, and move the slidebar to your maximum download rate (note that its in kb/s). Don't try to set it higher because that will hurt your download speeds!
Getting the most out of your connection
The following information will make browsing and downloading with torrents possible.
Okay, I just recently updated to the latest version of uTorrent, but it wasn't as efficient as the older version I had so I downgraded to 1.2 using Old Version Downloads - OldApps.com
Go into the preferences menu again in uTorrent, and look for the global maximum number of connections and the maximum number of connected peers per torrent. Set both these values to 20. This should make it possible to do other things like browse the web at a respectable speed whilst downloading torrents....

To this what can be done is that the USB can be blocked and then stopping the use of USB drives. Here is a simple registry hack to do so, try it with care.
1. Go to Start –> Run, type Regedit.
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlset\Servic es\USBStor
3. In the right pane, look for value Start and have value as 0000000(3)
4. Double click on that and change that value to 4.
You might be required to restart the PC, and then you are done with it, USB is now blocked.
In case if you want to get the USB unblocked, just change the value again to 3
